What is a weed anyway?

Dandelions- a weed is a weed, right?

Kristina BlasenBy Kristina Blasen

Have you ever stood at the window or observed your neighbor as you walked down the street as they were frantically attacking the dandelions in their yard while the house next door has a yard full of dandelions blooming gloriously in the sun? I love to see them bending their fluffy white heads in the breeze and I never stop my son from running along and blowing them to set them free. I’ve seen my neighbors hunched over with the weed spray eyes glued to the ground at war with any bit of green that looked suspicious. I had neighbors down the street who paid their kid .10 cents a plant to dig them up by the bucket full. I’ve seen them toss in piles as the lady next door scooted along sitting on her little rolling garden cart every Saturday. Talk about an act of futility.

What is a weed anyway; except something someone has decided is unwanted or undesirable at a particular time or in a particular place. One person accepts what is; the other attempts to change and control the world around them. Neither is inherently wrong nor right, but the intent when creating change DOES matter in your life. Are you coming from a positive place seeking to heal, energize and serve the highest good, or are you coming from a place of fear, lack and operating according to some unidentified and unconscious set of rules you think you must live by?

Are there areas of your life that need some attention, have you declared weeds in your mental garden? If the change you seek is for your greatest good then get to work, but if your weeds are only “weeds” in someone else’s eyes and only serve for you to strive futilely for perfection according to everyone else’s standards then STOP and re-evaluate those weeds- maybe they are just dandelions.

You can make radical changes, you can feel FEAR and experience change and also GET THROUGH IT and it is worth it! You can decide to make the changes you’ve been thinking about starting right now.

My life’s journey is about helping others to realize their potential, to mentor others and encourage their dreams to become reality, to help others grow, to offer counsel and support, to offer a helping hand and is realized by being a catalyst for change.
