Your Life Coach, Telling it Like it is: Accept No More Excuses!

Kristina BlasenBy Kristina Blasen

I am so frustrated with hearing this excuse from so many people I know, “I’m gonna do [x]…SOMEDAY…” If you want something to happen, if you think or wish or dream then you are the only one who can make it happen!

Making dreams into reality means that you have to DO SOMETHING, TAKE ACTIONS, TAKE RISKS, PUT YOURSELF OUT THERE!! Researching, buying stuff you’re never going to use, thinking about it, and most of all TALKING about it, without DOING anything all adds up to–NOTHING. A big zero!

Now that I’m on a rant, my second most annoying phrase I hear all the time lately when people tell me about their dreams is…”Oh, I’m becoming a…[insert dream here]”

Really? I wonder, how long have you been telling people you’re “becoming a” or “your gonna do [insert dream here]” SOMEDAY!

On Being vs. Becoming

When you are talking about making your dream a reality, the difference between “becoming” something and “being” something is far more than semantics.

When you think about your dream, when you talk about your dream with friends, family or colleagues, what do you say? Do you say “I’m becoming a…” or “I’m going to become a…” or do you say, “I’m a…”

Many people start on making their dreams a reality and since big dreams manifest over time they get stuck forever in this “I’m BECOMING or GOING TO BECOME” stage and they never really arrive at the destination of “I AM”.

This has to do with confidence and belief in yourself (or lack thereof) and fear. How is it that you can get a “real J-O-B” and despite knowing nothing when you walk in the door, the very next day you’re telling people “I’m a …marketer, accountant, teacher, etc…” and you don’t question this, your employer doesn’t question this and this is normal in our culture.

However, if you go out on your own, like you will when you start your own business, especially when you are working on making your dreams a reality, the words change to, “I’m becoming a..” or “I’m working towards…” if you can claim the J-O-B why can’t you claim your dream?

Everybody has to start somewhere and you start off not knowing anything. If you try to wait and gather more and more information about HOW TO DO IT, but you don’t actually use that information to create a piece of your dream or put it into action DOING something then you aren’t really doing anything- you are just thinking about it…someday…maybe…

This is not living or creating your dream, it is a trap created by fear and attention paid to what others think and believe about you instead of what you know that you want and can have if you dedicate the time and effort to making it real, despite all the naysayers.

When following your dream you are really going to have to step out into that fear and do it, despite what everyone (or even just one person) has to say about it.

Keep in mind too, that if the group of people, the friends and family around you are negative or less than supportive then really stepping out to follow your dreams is going to MAKE WAVES and CREATE PROBLEMS FOR YOU!

Why? Because other people who have given up on their dreams CAN’T STAND TO SEE YOU SUCCEED, they can’t even stand watching you TRY. It reminds them of what they aren’t doing, makes them feel guilty, pisses them off and they fear that you’ll leave them behind.

And to tell you the truth, if you do this, you WILL leave them behind because something inside us changes when we really start ACTING on our dreams and when we learn to make things happen instead of just thinking about them.

You’ll get to the point where you’re drawn to other like-minded people, positive, helpful people who believe in and support you and your dreams for yourself. Soon, you won’t be able to stand being around people who are negative and try to break your confidence and are filled with doomsday predictions, so be prepared because unless you give up, this change is gonna happen!!

If you are serious about going after your dreams, then you need to claim them for yourself RIGHT NOW! No more of this SOMEDAY- I mean right now. Stop thinking about it, stop researching endlessly, stop investing in more stuff that you think you need to even begin to get started and GO DO SOMETHING!
